Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who can stay at Emona?

Emona primarily provides accommodation for UNAM students. It will, however, also provide accommodation for ex-UNAM students, as well as students from other educational institutions in Windhoek, if the facilities are not fully occupied by UNAM students.

  • How do I secure my place at Emona?

Once a completed and signed application form has been received by Emona a lease fee is payable. This lease fee secures a bed for you at Emona.

  • What happens if I cancel?

Cancellations and withdrawals should be sent to Emona in writing before the last day of October in the preceding academic year for which the applicant has applied for. In this instance 50% of the lease fee will be refunded to the applicant.

  • What is the difference between a lease fee and a maintenance deposit?

A lease fee is a non-refundable fee that secures the bed for a student and is payable upon application. A maintenance deposit is payable on the first day of registration and will be refunded to the student if the student does not acquire any maintenance costs.

  • How far is Emona from the UNAM Campus?

Emona is situated on UNAM, Windhoek Campus on the eastern side of the existing hostels. It is 5 minutes’ walk away from the library.

  • Is there parking for my car?

Unfortunately, there is limited parking at Emona. Parking will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, so the sooner you book the more chance you have of securing a parking. If the parking is full you will unfortunately not be allowed a vehicle on the premises. Please clearly indicate on the application form if you will need a parking.
